My visit to Creme de la Crepe

This past Sunday I had a taste for French Cuisine.  I did not want to go too far from the house though.  I GOOGLED "French Restaurants" and came up with a few places, Creme de la Crepe came up a in a few locations that were really close to me. I texted a few of my friends to see if they wanted to adventure out with me, especially since Sunday was so lovely out, but no go.

I ended up at the Creme de la Crepe location in Redondo Beach, Ca off of Catalina.  Plenty of outside seating, and lovely inside with a lounge area and wine stocked bar.  I decided to sit inside since I was alone.

Stephanie greeted me as soon as I walked in and said I could sit anywhere.  I chose a corner seat against the wall, so I could have a view of outside.  The lunch menu had a variety of choices; homemade soups, fresh salads, crepes, quiches, sandwiches, and plate lunches.  Since I had checked out their menu at home, I already knew what I wanted.  I ordered the steamed artichoke salad, and a cup of the cream of tomato, plus a glass of their Rose.

The wine was okay, I probably was not too bitter or too sweet.

My salad arrived.  Half of a steamed artichoke, mixed greens, slices of prosciutto, blue cheese, and asparagus.  It was too pretty to eat! The presentation was spot on.  I took a bite of the salad, lovely pairing of the prosciutto with the blue cheese, the salad dressing, not sure what kind it was, but a bit unnecessary for the salad.  I believe a vinaigrette would have been more fitting for the explosion of flavors they were trying to achieve.

My soup looked rather orange to be tomato, but I didn't question it. I tried it, and it was cream of carrot, but it was amazing! Amazing! Glad that they gave me the wrong soup.

I love crepes and wanted to try their desert crepe.  I ordered the Sucree  with bananas and a vanilla latte.  The presentation was the best part of the crepe.  It looked very pretty, but did not taste very good.  The crepes at the Torrance Farmers Market are way better.

I must mention briefly the service.  My wait staff overall was very friendly, and clean.  My waitress, Stephanie was very pleasant, and attentive, but didn't bug me too much.

Overall my visit was a good visit.  It is worth a few more visits.I want to go back and try some of the other menu items.

The only thing that bothered me about my visit, was I received the bill.  A little less than $40.00 ( I had 2 glasses of wine).  I left a $7.00 tip (about 17%).  First thing that irked me, was she collected the tip prior to me leaving the restaurant, and second she checked it standing in front of me, then went to whisper about how much I left her.  Not sure if she felt she deserved more or if she liked what I gave her.  But her boss said loudly, "she left you WHAT?".  WOW, really.  That could not wait until I was gone? Now I felt a bit uncomfortable.  Maybe I was just being weird, I don't know.

I give this visit 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

I love food...

I am completely obsessed with food.  What to eat, where to eat, etc...

Because of my obsession, I get a lot of people that ask me for recommendations, from co-workers, friends, friends of friends, to family.  It is kind of awesome.  I pride myself on knowing about food, ALL food.  I will try anything and everything at least once.

I have traveled as far as other countries to try out restaurants large and small, including London, Amsterdam, Prague, Nairobi just to name a few.

I check out restaurants based on recommendations, shows on t.v. (especially food network), and newspaper articles.

Not only do I try out restaurants, I also try out food trucks.

I have a lot of my friends that have encouraged me to write about my foodie experience.  Which restaurants and food trucks have the best food, best service, cleanest, and who to avoid because of their service, hair in the food, and just plain nasty..

Stay tuned.  You may be surprised...
